The Point Edward Minor Athletic Association was proud to partner with the Face Off for Mental Health campaign this past
Saturday, Nov. 22 for an important Awareness Day!
Together, we continue to work at raising awareness around
youth mental health, share vital resources, and encourage meaningful
conversations within our hockey community...
Players were invited to tape their sticks green, take photos
and make social media reels…while Coaches were encouraged to seize the
opportunity to use their pre-game chats to reinforce the message that the rink
is a safe space, where trusted adults are available to offer encouragement, and
help connect players with additional support if needed. Fans and players were
also encouraged to wear green and create posters with positive, supportive
messages.
According to Statistics Canada, approximately one in
five youth who rated their mental health as good or better in 2019 no
longer felt that way in 2023 — with girls more likely than boys to report a
decline.
We know that when we talk openly about mental health, we
successfully reduce stigma and make it easier for people to be vulnerable and
seek help sooner. By fostering empathy and understanding, we hope to make
connections and help build a supportive environment where individuals feel
comfortable sharing their struggles and accessing the care they need.
Thank you to Tom and Paula Babcock for spending their
Saturday with us! They were
Impressed with the enthusiasm and commitment our
organization brings to the FOFMH
campaign each and every season.
