Parent Association (Point Edward Minor Athletic Association)

PrintParent Association

Dear Blackhawk Players and Families,

PEMAA extends a warm welcome to both new and returning families participating in our 2017/2018 Hockey Season!.  We anticipate another exciting and successful season.  PEMAA promotes effective communication between Coaches, players and their families. We are busy organizing team and individual photos and have already begun planning the Year End banquet/award ceremony.  Our Year End banquet will be held on March 31, 2018 at our Community Hall – attached to the arena.  Details to follow…save the date!

This past summer, many of you helped us run the “Meat Raffles” at Two Amigos bar throughout the months of July and August.  This was a labour intensive venture that would not have been successful without the support of our PEMAA Board Members and hockey parents.  The revenue generated from previous years meat raffles was used to purchase new jerseys for Novice- Midget and training aids for all divisions.

Cash Box Pick Up and Drop off Location

This year, the Cash Box will once again be kept at the Point Variety (on Michigan Avenue across from the Ex-Servicemans Club.  There will be a sign in/out sheet.  If you are assigned to the gate for a game, you will need to arrive at the arena one hour prior to game in order to catch the parents/fans from the opposing team.  As has been the case in prior years, Point Edward players and family members are not expected to pay an entry fee to cheer us on.  It is $4.00 for adults and seniors and children 12 and up pay a reduced fee – details in the cash box. Your team Manager will devise a schedule of gate-workers, we appreciate your help in managing this task.

Individual and Team Photos

As was the case last year, photos will be taken on the ice during each Divisions practice time.  Team Managers will be handing out the order envelopes and they will be available from our website as well.  Please approach your Manager if you do not receive your order envelope.  Attached to the order envelope will be the Photographer’s business card.  Please contact the Photographer (Darren Metcalfe) directly if there is a problem with your order, he is excellent at making any necessary corrections to your order.  Stay tuned to our website for dates and times for each division.

At this time, there are no mandatory fundraising efforts planned.  If you have an idea for a voluntary, fun and easy fundraiser, please feel free to share it with us!

Face off For Mental Health

Please check our website for exciting details about a new initiative we are involved with!.  We are working with St. Clair Child and Youth Services to raise awareness for Mental Health.  For the month of November, we are asking our players to tape their sticks green!.  We will be providing the green tape J  Stay tuned!

Spirit Wear

We will have samples of warm up suits, jackets, hoodies etc. on hand at the rink in the coming weeks.  Lori Guthrie and Danielle Frenette-Hocking will be coordinating the order.  Please check the website for details and ordering information.

Spirit Day

For the past few years, we have hosted “Spirit Day”.  It was fun and exciting and families have indicated they loved it and want to continue having it.  It is tentatively booked for Saturday October 28th.  All Divisions will play a home game that day…we will have a pep rally atmosphere and fun contests, pizza etc.  Stay tuned to our facebook page and website as details unfold!

PEMAA will fund one tournament per team.  In addition, we will pay for up to $500.00 toward the second tournament if a team chooses to participate in a second tournament.  The difference will be managed through team fundraising efforts ie; bottle drive or collecting money from each family.  Please run all fundraising ideas through us as we cannot participate in any raffles of any type as they require a lottery licence etc.

If you have any questions, concerns, positive or constructive feedback,   Please do not hesitate to contact any PEMAA board member.  We can be reached by email (directly from the website) and will also be available by phone once you have established contact via email.

If you have a complaint or issue you need addressed, we require the concern be forwarded in writing so it can be properly handled at the Board level.

Please email the website if you are interested in getting more involved in supporting our Program.  We like to have representation from each age group whenever possible.  Our volunteers can help with Spirit Day, Year End banquet etc.

Finally, special thanks to all of our Coaches and Bench-staff.  They have been busy attending clinics and training, securing Criminal Reference Checks and planning games/practices.  Without their hard work and dedication, our Program would not be successful!  Please take time to convey your appreciation during the season.

As always, please consult our website for updates and black-out dates.  Following the Coaches Scheduling meeting on October 26, 2017, your team roster will be posted in their respective division as well as games/practices.
